Announced under Rule 110 on the government's 100th day, the expansion adds ₹953.06 crore for 1.38 lakh more farmers — taking the total waiver to ₹6,220 crore.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a further expansion of the state's crop loan waiver in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, under Rule 110, on the day his government completed 100 days in office. Cooperative crop loans up to ₹75,000 will now be waived in full.
| Loan Amount | Waiver |
|---|---|
| Up to ₹75,000 | 100% — fully waived |
| ₹75,000 to ₹1 lakh | Up to ₹75,000 |
| Above ₹1 lakh | Maximum ₹35,000 |
“This initiative will provide additional support to over 1.38 lakh farmers, representing an additional financial commitment of approximately ₹953.06 crore by the government, with a total waiver amount reaching ₹6,220 crore for 13.34 lakh farmers,” Vijay told the House.
The waiver has been expanded in stages. Within 15 days of taking office in May, the government waived agricultural loans up to ₹50,000. That was later extended to full waivers for loans up to ₹75,000 with a ₹35,000 waiver on loans above that, benefiting over 14.44 lakh farmers.
Monday's announcement followed consultations with agricultural unions on 7 August. Vijay said the government had decided to provide the additional relief despite current financial constraints and Reserve Bank of India guidelines requiring rapid settlements with cooperative banks.
The announcement adds to a run of agricultural measures: the Agriculture Budget of 6 August, with ₹17,000 crore in crop loans and a 125 lakh metric tonne food-grain target, and the procurement incentive increases of 10 August that took fine-variety paddy to ₹2,750 per quintal and sugarcane to ₹4,000 per tonne.
