C. Joseph Vijay, founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is the current Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. He was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister on 10 May 2026 after TVK emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Assembly election.
TVK is a Tamil Nadu political party founded by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay on 2 February 2024, built on principles of egalitarianism, secularism and social justice. It won 108 of 234 Assembly seats in its debut election and now leads Tamil Nadu's coalition government.
The TVK-led coalition includes the Indian National Congress, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) as governing partners, with CPI and CPI(M) providing outside support.
Yes. Before entering politics, Vijay — known to fans as "Thalapathy" — built a 34-year Tamil cinema career spanning 69 films as a lead actor, beginning with Naalaiya Theerpu in 1992, before transitioning into full-time politics with TVK's founding in 2024.
