Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is chairing a landmark two-day District Collectors Conference on June 29–30, 2026 at Naamakkal Kavignar Maaligai, Chennai Secretariat — the first such official meeting since he assumed office on May 10, 2026. CM Vijay addressed the conference today morning, with IANS confirming his presence at the podium.
Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar held a preparatory review with all District Collectors on Sunday, June 28 at 10:30 AM ahead of the main conference. The conference is attended by DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, senior secretaries, District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Range DIGs, IGs and senior Forest Department officials.
The conference brings together all 38 District Collectors, senior IAS, IPS and IFS officers, Department Secretaries, the Director General of Police and other top officials — deliberating on 43 key governance issues across public administration, policing, welfare, agriculture, health, education, environment and infrastructure.
CM Vijay directed that the conference be conducted across 3 structured sessions, reviewing the action plans of 28 government departments:
Session 1 (Monday, June 29) — District Collectors + senior police officials. Focus: law and order, women's safety, public health, district-level scheme implementation, the Drug-Free Tamil Nadu initiative, and the Vetri Tamilagam vision plan. Discussions covered chain-snatching prevention, police accountability, intelligence gathering, faster arrest warrant execution, monitoring of habitual offenders and persons out on bail, and caste-conflict prevention. The Singappen Special Task Force, POCSO case progress and cybercrimes against women and children were also reviewed.
Session 2 (Tuesday, June 30) — Reserved exclusively for District Collectors. Focus: whether welfare schemes and government benefits have actually reached the public, and identifying implementation challenges at the ground level.
Session 3 (Tuesday, June 30) — Joint review by District Collectors and Indian Forest Service officers. Focus: forest conservation, environmental management and the Green Tamil Nadu Mission.
The conference concludes Tuesday evening with a closing address by CM Vijay, who is also expected to present awards and commendations to District Collectors, police officers and Forest Department personnel for outstanding performance.
The conference is expected to result in district-wise targets and timelines for Collectors and police officials — ensuring that key welfare schemes and public services are implemented effectively and measurably across all 38 districts of Tamil Nadu.

Why now? The timing is deliberate. This conference comes at the 50-day mark of CM Vijay's governance — when the initial phase of policy announcements and cabinet formation is complete and the focus shifts to delivery and accountability. It also comes just before the Revised 2026–27 Budget, allowing district-level feedback to directly inform budget priorities.
The conference marks a shift from announcement-mode to execution-mode — where District Collectors are given clear, time-bound targets across 28 departments, and their performance will be reviewed periodically. CM Vijay's decision to personally chair all three sessions, end with public commendations for top performers, and frame the entire conference around the Vetri Tamilagam vision plan signals that accountability is being built directly into the administrative culture of the TVK government — rewarding good governance, not just announcing it.
