The Union Government’s High Powered Task Force on Examination Reforms, headed by Nandan Nilekani, met Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Tamil Nadu used the meeting to set out its position on entrance tests clearly.
The State pointed the task force to the unanimous resolution against NEET passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 11 August 2026, and reiterated that this remains the government’s firm position.
Removing NEET has been one of CM Vijay’s steady demands since he took office, raised with the Prime Minister, at NITI Aayog and in the Assembly. In October he also ordered the withdrawal of cases against people who had protested against NEET.
