Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay launched ₹3,000 crore in bank-linked loans for about 26,000 women’s self-help groups (SHGs) across Tamil Nadu at a state-level function in Perundurai, Erode district, on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. It was the second stop of his November district tour, a day after Pudukkottai.
The loans help women start new businesses or grow existing ones — from textiles and handlooms to food processing — with formal bank credit instead of high-interest private lenders. Of the total, ₹1,110 crore went to more than 9,000 groups from 13 districts including Erode, Karur, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Salem and Namakkal. The function was organised by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department and the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women.

In his address, the CM said women’s groups strengthen the rural economy and build financial independence from the grassroots, and that bank credit protects them from moneylenders.
Before the function, the CM toured an exhibition of products made by self-help groups — Toda embroidery from the Nilgiris, bamboo and banana-fibre crafts, handloom bedspreads, millet snacks, ghee, palm-leaf art and clay pottery.
The CM flew from Chennai to Coimbatore and travelled by road to Perundurai, with a roadshow past about seven junctions — Vijayamangalam, the SIPCOT area and Perundurai town — where crowds lined the road. Ministers N. Anand, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Dr. K.K. Arunraj, M. Vijay Balaji and K. Vignesh, MLAs and Collector S. Kandasamy took part. On the way back to Coimbatore airport, he made a surprise inspection of the Karumathampatti Police Station in Coimbatore district, before flying back to Chennai.
Besides the bank loans, the CM also gave livelihood financial assistance of several kinds, sanction orders to start skill-training courses for young people, and sanction orders to set up sales outlets for products made by self-help groups.
The Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women is holding a Deepavali Special Sale Exhibition 2026 of self-help-group products at Annai Theresa Magalir Valagam, Valluvar Kottam High Road, Thirumurthy Nagar, Nungambakkam, Chennai, on 4, 5 and 6 November, from 9 AM to 9 PM. On sale: traditional rice varieties, millets, silk and cotton clothes, fresh vegetables and greens, artificial jewellery, traditional foods, fruits and palm products.
The next planned stop on the tour is Ambasamudram on 14 November (Children’s Day), subject to change.
