Before, During & After the Rain

✅ Before

  • Save 1070, 1077 and 112 in your phone — and write them on paper
  • Install the TN-Alert app for official rain and flood warnings
  • Keep an emergency kit: torch, power bank, medicines, documents in a plastic cover, drinking water, dry food
  • Clear drains and gutters around your house; move vehicles to higher ground if your street floods
  • Know your nearest relief centre — ask your ward office or VAO
  • Charge phones and power banks when a red or orange alert is issued

⚠️ During

  • Stay indoors during heavy rain and lightning
  • Never walk or drive through flowing water — 15 cm can knock you down, 30 cm can float a car
  • Stay away from snapped wires, transformers and waterlogged electric poles — call 94987 94987
  • Switch off the main power supply if water enters your house
  • Fishermen: do not go to sea when a warning is issued
  • Follow only official updates — do not forward unverified messages

🧹 After

  • Boil drinking water; watch for fever, diarrhoea and dengue
  • Do not touch electrical appliances until they are checked
  • Clean and disinfect the house; drain stagnant water to stop mosquitoes
  • Report damage to your VAO / Taluk office for relief
  • Check on elderly neighbours and people living alone
