Samvardhana Motherson International Limited is one of the world's largest auto component manufacturers, headquartered in Noida with a global presence across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Its UK and European joint ventures span wiring harnesses, polymer processing, rear-view mirrors and modules for global OEMs including Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover. The ₹11,000 crore commitment to Tamil Nadu — to be deployed over multiple years — is one of the largest single-company MoUs signed by the TVK government to date.
Ernst & Young (EY) has agreed to set up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Tamil Nadu, under an agreement signed during Vijay’s London visit, with an investment of ₹1,000 crore and more than 2,000 high-value corporate jobs expected. GCCs are becoming a major sector for Tamil Nadu — the state already has over 200 GCCs employing more than 3 lakh professionals.
Sigma Technology Group, a digital services and engineering company, has announced expansion of its operations in Tamil Nadu, adding to the state’s growing technology and advanced manufacturing ecosystem. Specific investment figures for Sigma are yet to be officially released.
The London MoUs add to Tamil Nadu's growing investment pipeline under the TVK government:

The visit was built on the India-UK CETA (in force July 15, 2026). Tamil Nadu had dispatched its first export consignment to the UK on the very day CETA came into force, signalling early readiness to leverage the pact.
Industries Minister S. Keerthana, part of the London delegation, said: “The Chief Minister’s visit to London has secured strong investment commitments across manufacturing, technology and Global Capability Centres. Tamil Nadu is attracting investments on a large scale under the leadership of CM Vijay.”
On September 15, CM Vijay shared a special video from the Silverstone visit, capturing his interaction with Ajith Kumar at the racing circuit. The video went viral, extending the reach of the Vijay–Ajith moment to a new wave of fans who had not seen the live footage.
On September 12, CM Vijay met Kumaran Periasamy, India’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, to discuss trade opportunities and investment partnerships under the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) framework, which came into force on July 15, 2026. The meeting focused on strengthening Tamil Nadu’s specific export and investment linkages with British and European companies under the new pact.
The investment momentum continued after Vijay returned. On September 18, Walgreens India signed an MoU in CM Vijay’s presence to establish its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Chennai at DLF Downtown, Taramani. The centre is expected to generate more than 250 high-value jobs in its first year, strengthening Chennai’s growing GCC ecosystem.
CM Vijay returned to Chennai on Thursday morning, September 17. The official Tamil Nadu government statement described the visit as “a major milestone in Tamil Nadu’s efforts to position the state as one of the world’s leading destinations for investment, industrial growth and innovation.” The MoUs and Letter of Intent span the following confirmed sectors: auto components, R&D, renewable energy, power grid equipment, and Global Capability Centres (GCCs). The state-owned Guidance TN and senior government officials accompanied the CM throughout the six-day mission. The government said the agreements “reflected growing international confidence in Tamil Nadu’s economy and its capacity to accommodate large industrial projects.”
The UK mission drew political responses on September 17 when Vijay returned to Chennai. AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran demanded a White Paper detailing the investments secured — their timelines, legally binding commitments, and expected job creation outcomes. Former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami (AIADMK) also criticised the trip, questioning whether the investment announcements would translate into actual projects. The TVK government defended the mission’s economic outcomes, noting all figures represent proposed investments and commitments, not completed capital deployment.
