CM Vijay chairs a high-level review of higher education — directing officials to expedite Vice-Chancellor appointments, address faculty shortages and strengthen governance across Tamil Nadu's universities.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting on higher education and directed officials to expedite the appointment of Vice-Chancellors to 15 state universities. The move addresses a long-pending administrative gap and signals the government's intent to restore full leadership across Tamil Nadu's university system.
Beyond the Vice-Chancellor appointments, the review focused on addressing faculty shortages across state universities, improving institutional governance, and strengthening the overall quality of higher education in Tamil Nadu. Officials presented the current status of university administration, and the Chief Minister sought time-bound action plans on each front.
Vacant Vice-Chancellor posts have long affected day-to-day administration, research approvals and academic decision-making in state universities. By ordering a fast-tracked appointment process for all 15 institutions, the government aims to restore stable academic leadership and ensure students and faculty are not held back by administrative vacuums.
The higher education review is the latest in a series of education-focused initiatives by the TVK government — following the school curriculum committee announced earlier and the month-long performance review of all departments launched on July 2. It reflects CM Vijay's consistent emphasis on education as the foundation of Tamil Nadu's growth, and his government's push for accountable, well-governed public institutions.
