Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has moved into Pamani Illam, a renovated government house on Greenways Road, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai. He inspected the building on the morning of 5 November 2026, and the move began with a pooja the same day.
Until now the CM travelled from his home in Neelankarai to the Secretariat, and traffic was held up along the route on every trip, inconveniencing the public. From Pamani Illam the daily round trip drops from about 50 km to 18 km, which means less time on the road and fewer traffic halts for Chennai residents.
Reports that the residence may be renamed “Vetri Illam” are not yet official. Renovation of his future office inside Fort St. George is also under way.
