☕ CM Vijay and Rahul Gandhi Stop for Coffee at a Palavakkam Café

After their lunch meeting at Neelankarai on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi went out for coffee at Bask, a café in Palavakkam on East Coast Road (The South First). The relaxed stop drew wide attention on social media and in the national press.

What Happened

• Where: Bask, a café in Palavakkam, a few minutes from the Chief Minister's Neelankarai home (The South First).
• What they had: cappuccino, coffee, tiramisu and cookies (South Matters). NDTV headlined it a "coffee and tiramisu outing".
• Afterwards: the two leaders left together in the same car. The South First reported they went on to a private meeting at the Taj Connemara hotel on Anna Salai.

Why It Drew Attention

A Chief Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha sharing coffee in a neighbourhood café is unusual. The informal outing sent a friendly public signal a day after TVK's twin by-election wins. It was also the first meeting of the two leaders since the TVK-led alliance, which includes the Congress, was named in September.

The café visit followed an hour-long lunch at which, according to Congress sources, Rahul Gandhi congratulated Vijay on the by-election results. Read the full report on the meeting ›
