A day before its worldwide release, Jana Nayagan's advance bookings cross ₹33 crore worldwide, with 7.37 lakh tickets sold for opening day in India alone.
With Jana Nayagan set for its worldwide theatrical release on Thursday, July 23, advance bookings continued their rapid climb on Wednesday, crossing ₹33 crore worldwide for opening day. According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film's India collection alone breached the ₹17 crore mark in gross pre-sales, with 7.37 lakh tickets sold across 9,566 shows — though it still trails GOAT and Leo at the same pre-release stage.
The Tamil version is driving the pre-sales, with ₹16.54 crore gross and 7.23 lakh tickets sold. Including blocked seats, India's first-day booking figure rises to ₹22.56 crore gross. Trade analysts tracking the film say it is on course for a global opening in the region of ₹90 crore.
| Version | Gross Booking | Tickets |
|---|---|---|
| Tamil | ₹16.54 crore | 7.23 lakh |
| Telugu | ₹18.98 lakh | — |
| Hindi | ₹4.83 lakh | — |
The release caps a turbulent journey for the film, which faced nearly six months of postponement over censorship hurdles before finally clearing them, and suffered a high-definition footage leak online that industry monitors say has already been viewed more than 1.20 crore times. Director H. Vinoth has said the theatrical cut includes fresh post-climax sequences not present in the leaked material.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Venkat K. Narayana under KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan is a partial remake of the 2023 Telugu hit Bhagavanth Kesari and features Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, and Gautham Vasudev Menon. Carrying a reported budget of ₹300–350 crore and a runtime of 183 minutes, it marks Vijay's final film before his full-time transition into politics as Chief Minister — a milestone reflected in promotional material that addresses him as the "Honourable Chief Minister."
