Vijay's farewell film jumped more than 41% on its third Sunday to cross ₹317 crore worldwide after 18 days — and the gap with Karuppu for 2026's top Tamil grosser has narrowed to under ₹5 crore.
After a quiet stretch of weekdays that had its daily takings dip below ₹1.20 crore, Jana Nayagan found its feet again over the third weekend. The film added roughly ₹3.60 crore on its third Sunday — a jump of 41.2% over Saturday — taking its worldwide gross past ₹317 crore after 18 days in theatres, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.
The recovery is more striking than the headline figure suggests. Daily collections had been sliding steadily through the third week — ₹1.60 crore on Thursday, then ₹1.18 crore on Friday. Saturday reversed that sharply with a surge of around 135%, and Sunday built on it with a further 41.2% rise. Theatre occupancy on the third Sunday stood at 50.96%, unusually healthy for a film more than two weeks into its run, and a sign that Vijay's audience is still turning out.

India net collections now stand at approximately ₹192.10 crore, which converts to ₹224.03 crore gross. Overseas gross has edged up to ₹93.15 crore — still the highest of any Tamil release in 2026 — bringing the worldwide total to about ₹317.18 crore.
That narrowing gap is the number worth watching. Suriya's Karuppu has held the position of the year's highest-grossing Tamil film on domestic collections throughout, and Jana Nayagan has been chasing it since crossing ₹300 crore worldwide. With the weekend rebound, that lead has shrunk to under ₹5 crore in India gross — close enough that another strong weekend could settle it, though the weekday pattern of the past fortnight suggests the film will need to hold its footing to get there. On worldwide totals, Jana Nayagan is already ahead, carried by its overseas strength.
Released on July 23, 2026, and directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj and Gautham Vasudev Menon, with music by Anirudh Ravichander. No official OTT premiere date has been announced by the makers.
