Tamil Nadu has notified new autorickshaw fares for the first time since 2013 — ₹50 for the first 1.8 km and ₹25 for every additional km, with a waiting charge and a night fare. Auto drivers’ associations thanked the government on October 30.
Autorickshaw drivers across Tamil Nadu thanked Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the Transport Department on Friday, October 30, 2026, after the government notified revised auto fares — the first revision in 13 years. The notification was issued on Tuesday, October 27.
| Component | New fare |
|---|---|
| Minimum fare (first 1.8 km) | ₹50 |
| Every additional km | ₹25 |
| Waiting charge | ₹1 per minute |
| Night travel (10 pm to 5 am) | 1.5 times the day fare |
For drivers, the revision brings fares in line with today’s running costs. For passengers, a fixed, published fare makes it easier to insist on travel by meter and to avoid haggling. The department is expected to ask drivers to recalibrate meters and display the new chart inside every auto.
