Health Minister Dr. K.K. Arunraj and HR&CE Minister C. Ramesh opened a “Healthy and Hygienic Food Street” on Race Course Road in Tiruchirappalli, where street-food vendors follow set standards for clean, safe food.
Tiruchirappalli now has a “Healthy and Hygienic Food Street”. Medical, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Dr. K.K. Arunraj and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister C. Ramesh cut the ribbon on Race Course Road in the Tiruchirappalli Corporation area on 2 November 2026.
It is a cluster of street-food stalls that are trained and checked to follow food-safety standards — clean water, safe handling and storage, waste disposal, and hygiene among vendors. The idea is that families can enjoy local street food knowing it is prepared safely. Vendors are given training and certificates under the food-safety framework; the Health Department’s food-safety wing supports the street.
The ministers handed over certificates to vendors and went round the street. Thiruverumbur MLA Navalpattu S. Viji, Manapparai MLA R. Kathiravan and government officials took part.
The Food Safety Department has also issued Deepavali advice to the public: buy sweets and savouries from licensed shops, check packing and expiry dates, and report unsafe food to the food-safety authorities.
