Chief Minister and TVK president C. Joseph Vijay will hold a road show in Madurantakam on Friday, October 2, 2026, campaigning for TVK candidate K. Maragatham Kumaravel ahead of the October 6 by-election. It will be his second campaign appearance in the constituency, after the public meeting near the Aathur toll plaza on September 25.
| Stop | What is planned |
|---|---|
| Melmaruvathur | Prayers at the Adhiparasakthi temple, and homage at the memorial of spiritual leader Bangaru Adigalar |
| Madurantakam constituency, 4 PM – 9 PM | Road show through Mamandur, Padalam junction, the Karunguzhi Ayyanar temple area and Savarambakkam, among other places |
The details are from the proposed programme reported by IANS; the route may be adjusted on the day.
October 2 is also the day the Chief Minister launches the Vettri Payanam free bus travel scheme across the state, bringing 12,692 buses under free travel for women, girls and transgender persons. Because of the Model Code of Conduct, the expanded scheme will reach Chengalpattu district — which includes Madurantakam — only after the by-election process ends.
Madurantakam (SC) has a five-cornered contest. TVK’s Maragatham Kumaravel won the seat in May with 69,284 votes; she resigned on May 25 and joined TVK. The other main candidates are DMK’s I. Paranthamen, AIADMK’s Kanitha Sampath, CPI(M)’s P. Suganthi and NTK’s K. Janakiraman. Campaigning ends at 6 PM on October 4; polling is on October 6 and counting on October 9.
