After a detailed review of southwest monsoon rainfall, drinking water supply in the districts and the status of crops, CM Vijay sanctioned ₹340 crore for drinking water and other essential works.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay chaired a detailed review on Friday, July 31, 2026, of southwest monsoon rainfall, drinking water supply in the districts and the status of crops.
The southwest monsoon brings only a small share of Tamil Nadu’s rain, and dry spells in July and August can strain drinking water sources before the northeast monsoon arrives. Releasing funds early helps districts repair pumps and pipelines, deepen sources and run water tankers where needed.
The same evening, the Chief Minister presented President’s medals to police, prisons and fire services personnel at Rajarathinam Stadium.
