Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay called on Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan in Chennai on Thursday, October 15, 2026. Details of what was discussed were not made public.

Background

• Arlekar took oath as Tamil Nadu’s 27th Governor on March 12, 2026. He had also been in charge of Keralam; on October 12, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur as Governor of Keralam, so Arlekar now looks after Tamil Nadu alone.
• In September, the Governor gave assent to 12 of the 13 Bills passed by the Assembly under the TVK government.
• The visit came a day after the Chief Minister laid the foundation for the Chennai Ring Main project and on the same day he launched the semiconductor scheme and opened a data centre with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister.

Why It Matters

Relations between the previous government and the Governor’s office were often strained over Bills and policy. Regular meetings and the quick assent to most of the Assembly’s Bills point to a working relationship in which state laws move forward without long delays — something the Chief Minister has stressed while also insisting on Tamil Nadu’s rights.
