CM Vijay and Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong inaugurated CapitaLand Data Centre Chennai 01 at Ambattur — a ₹1,940 crore, 53 MW facility built for AI and cloud computing.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong jointly inaugurated CapitaLand Data Centre Chennai 01 at Ambattur, Chennai, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
It is the Singapore group’s first data centre in Chennai, and the latest step in a 22-year relationship that began in 2004 with the International Tech Park at Taramani.
The two leaders planted a tree and took part in a pineapple-rolling ritual — a Singaporean custom to welcome prosperity — set to nadaswaram music. Singapore’s High Commissioner to India Simon Wong called it “a ceremony combining the best of Singapore and India”. Vijay and Gan then toured the facility, and people lined the roads in Ambattur to greet the Chief Minister.
Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar, Singapore’s Consul General William Chik and officials of Guidance Tamil Nadu and Enterprise Singapore also attended.
CapitaLand Investment has put more than ₹6,000 crore into Tamil Nadu across seven operating assets over 22 years, and said it plans to grow its data centre, logistics and industrial business in the state. The project grew out of an agreement signed at the 2024 Global Investors Meet.
Data centres are the factories of the AI age. A large, power-secure facility next to Chennai’s cable landing stations strengthens the city’s position as India’s second data-centre hub, and on the same day the government launched a semiconductor incentive scheme — showing a clear push to win high-technology investment for Tamil Nadu.
