Period counts as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
A shortage of physical education teachers has made regular sports periods hard to run. The department has begun steps to fill about 6,000 vacant PE teacher posts, which will help schools put the new timetable into practice (DT Next). Handbooks have been given to PE teachers, and textbooks for students will follow soon (News Today).
At the same meeting, the Minister launched Palli Paarvai 3.0, an app that digitises school inspections and classroom observation. Chief, District and Block Educational Officers will record their school visits on it, and the data will flow directly into the EMIS platform so that issues can be acted on quickly (News Today, Kalvi Seithi).
The changes build on the TVK government’s first Budget, which provided for a Physical Education and Sports University and planned an hour of structured sports and exercise daily after school in government and aided schools.
