Tamil Kudimagan

Chinnasamy, from the laundering community in the village of Sendhipatti, dreams of a government job that will give him dignity. Upper-caste villagers repeatedly thwart him, tricking him into performing funeral rites so that he misses his exam and wrecking his dairy business. When his sister is attacked over a relationship, he refuses to perform the last rites for the dominant family's patriarch and is then falsely accused and beaten by police. A sympathetic police superintendent takes his case to the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, which rules that performing rituals is a personal choice and that a profession is not a caste identity.

Reviews were mixed: critics acknowledged that the film raised important questions about caste but felt its messaging was heavy-handed. Some reviewers found its answers less convincing than its questions.
