Father and son
He and Shoba launched Vijay as a lead actor in Naalaiya Theerpu (1992), produced under their V. V. Creations banner, and he went on to direct Vijay in Senthoorapandi (1993), Rasigan (1994), Deva (1995), Vishnu (1995), Maanbumigu Maanavan (1996), Once More (1997) and Nenjinile (1999). He also started the Vijay Rasigar Mandram fan club in 1993 to build his son's popularity.
Profile
He is known for films on social issues, especially stories about failures of law and justice: titles such as Sattam Oru Iruttarai, Neethikku Thandanai, Sattam Oru Vilayaattu and Naalaiya Theerpu show this theme. Many of his films starred Vijayakanth or, later, his son Vijay, and several were remade by him in Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
He was born in Thangachimadam, a village on Rameswaram island, and grew up in a Catholic Christian family.
His first film credit was Olimayamana Ethirkalam (1977), and he made his directorial debut with Aval Oru Pachai Kuzhandhai (1978). His breakthrough was Sattam Oru Iruttarai (1981).
