Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay's government moved to fulfil one of its campaign commitments to Tamil Nadu's mango farming community, announcing procurement support and intervention pricing for mango growers in Krishnagiri, Theni, Salem, and Dindigul districts — the state's four major mango-producing zones.

The Problem TVK Inherited

Tamil Nadu's mango farmers — particularly in Krishnagiri, which accounts for the largest share of the state's mango output — had long suffered from pricing exploitation by middlemen and a lack of direct market access. The issue was specifically raised by TVK during its 2025 state conference and featured in the party's election manifesto as a Farmer First commitment.

📌 Mango Farmer Support Package
  • Minimum Support Price (MSP) intervention for Banganapalli and Alphonso varieties
  • Direct procurement through Tamil Nadu Agricultural Marketing Board
  • Cold storage subsidy for farmers in Krishnagiri and Dindigul
  • Waiver of market fees for small and marginal farmers (below 2 acres)
  • Districts covered: Krishnagiri, Theni, Salem, Dindigul

TVK's Campaign Promise

During TVK's Vikravandi Conference in October 2024, the party passed a resolution specifically demanding better pricing for mango farmers and criticising what it called "government-facilitated exploitation by middlemen." The announcement of support measures within the first weeks of governance was widely noted by agricultural communities as an early sign of promise-keeping.

Agriculture Minister portfolios under the TVK cabinet are being managed as part of a broader Farmer First policy framework that also includes paddy procurement, fisheries support, and expanded crop insurance.
