Jana Nayagan — meaning "People's Leader" in Tamil — is the 69th and final film of C. Vijay had announced as early as February 2024 that he would step away from cinema to focus entirely on politics following TVK's founding. Jana Nayagan was meant to be his farewell — directed by H. The film was originally scheduled for a wide international release on 9 January 2026, timed to the Pongal festival. That release was delayed after a complaint led the CBFC to refer the film to a revising committee over its political and religious content, with the dispute reaching the Madras High Court before certification resumed. The film was further hit by a leak in April 2026, when Tamil Nadu Police reported nearly 1.2 crore people watched a pirated version online. The CBFC has since completed its review, and required several cuts — including flag visuals, a child-burning scene and references to TVK — before granting clearance. Jana Nayagan is now confirmed for release on July 23, 2026.
