A British Tamil of Sri Lankan Tamil heritage, known publicly as the wife of actor and Chief Minister Vijay. She has largely kept a private life away from the film industry and the public spotlight.
Sangeetha was born into a Sri Lankan Tamil family with business connections in the United Kingdom, where she spent much of her early life. Her father, Sornalingam, is described in public reports as a UK-based businessman. Little has been published about her early life and education, as she has generally stayed away from the media.
According to published accounts, Sangeetha was an admirer of Vijay and travelled from the UK to Chennai after watching his hit film Poove Unakkaga (1996). She met him during a film shoot to congratulate him on the film’s success. The meeting grew into a friendship, and the two decided to marry with the involvement and blessings of both families.
Sangeetha and Vijay were married on 25 August 1999 in Chennai, following an earlier registration of their marriage in the United Kingdom in 1998, according to reports. After the wedding she chose to stay away from the film industry and public life.
They have two children: son Jason Sanjay, who has chosen filmmaking and appeared alongside Vijay in Vettaikaaran (2009), and daughter Divya Saasha, who appeared alongside Vijay in Theri (2016). Sangeetha has largely kept both children away from media attention. She is the daughter-in-law of filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekhar and singer-filmmaker Shoba Chandrasekhar.
Throughout Vijay’s long career, Sangeetha has kept a low public profile, appearing with the family only at selected events. Her preference for privacy means comparatively little verified information about her is publicly available.
