Jason Sanjay

Early life

Jason Sanjay was born on 26 August 2000 in London and grew up in Chennai, where he studied at the American International School. He is the elder child of Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam; his younger sister is Divya Saasha.

Education

He chose filmmaking as his field of study, completing a Diploma in Film Production at Toronto Film School in Canada, followed by a BA (Hons) in Screenwriting in London. The training covered both the creative and production sides of filmmaking.

Early filmmaking

While studying in Canada he wrote a feature-length screenplay of around 120 pages, and later adapted the idea into a short film to gain practical experience as a director. His short film Pull the Trigger was one of his early projects in writing and directing.

Career and Sigma

In August 2023 Lyca Productions announced that Jason would make his feature directorial debut with them, and he described the opportunity as coming with significant creative responsibility. The project was developed with Sundeep Kishan in the lead, A. Subaskaran producing and Thaman S composing the music.

The film was titled Sigma in November 2025. It is an action-adventure built around a treasure hunt and heist, with Faria Abdullah as the female lead and a cast including Raju Sundaram, Sampath Raj and Shiv Panditt. Krishnan Vasant is the cinematographer and Praveen KL the editor. The audio and trailer launch took place on 18 September 2026.

With his father

As a child, Jason appeared with Vijay in the song “Naan Adicha Thaangamatta” in Vettaikaaran (2009). In an August 2026 interview he described seeing his father become Chief Minister as a historic moment. He has spoken about wanting to build his own identity as a filmmaker.

Family

Son of Vijay and Sangeetha Sornalingam, and grandson of filmmaker S.A. Chandrasekhar and singer-filmmaker Shoba Chandrasekhar — part of a family with decades of involvement in Tamil cinema.
